The British Dal Festival will culminate in our Grand Dal Finale at Paintworks in Bristol on Saturday February 16th. We will celebrate and feast on dal of all kinds, with dal-icious vibes and music to reflect the diversity, versatility and deliciousness of dal and the pulses that make it.

Inspirational dal cookery demos and talks
Great British Bake Off star Chetna Makan joins us to talk about her love of dal and her brand new cookbook ’Chetna’s Healthy Indian’, award winning community ambassador Kalpna Woolf will be sharing her favourite dal recipe and tips, Dr Caroline Gilmartin will be discussing the wonders of fermenting pulses, pulse ambassador Jenny Chandler will be demonstrating just how versatile pulses are, plus more from Thali chef Ramesh and Bristol-based chef Genevieve Taylor. Children’s activities
There will be plenty for the kids to do, including man-dal-a making, rangoli painting, pulse art, dal cooking with author of ‘Cool Kids Cook’, Jenny Chandler and ‘pat a paratha’ with Ramesh from Thali.
Market stalls
Pick up ghee made with milk from high welfare grass fed cows, hummus, British-grown pulses, spices, fermented goodies and plenty of organic fresh produce.
Street food
Come hungry, our street food vendors will have plenty of delicious dishes to fill hungry tummies, including Bombay street snacks, Thalis and other vibrant Indian food.

Where Is It?
Paintworks is located on the A4 (Bath Road) near Totterdown. Follow signs for Temple Meads Railway Station, then continue along the A4 bearing left at Three Lamps junction. Continue for approx half a mile, Paintworks is on the left hand side. It is approximately a 12 minute walk from Temple Meads station.
There is limited parking available on site, please use public transport if at all possible. If you're coming on foot, by bike or in a car you can download a map. There are lots of ways to get here without a car, take a look at our greener travel choices.
